I pulled the gear out of the side of the tranny and it is fine, in fact is barely looks worn. I assembled the gear onto the cable and spun it, speedo worked. When I assemble the two into the tranny, nothing works. Could the replacement cable that looks EXACTLY like the old one be too short on the inner core? Where could I find the right one? Am I doing something wrong when I put the gear and it's housing into the tranny then screw the cable onto it? I am trying my best to put the square cable drive into the hole in the center of the gear.

HELP!!
