I converted a '55 Plymouth several years ago. All I did was swap the voltage sensitive parts from a '56. No problems. If you are planning on keeping the car, why care if the value drops? Unless it's nearly perfect, it won't make any difference, and if I was buying it, it would make it more valuable.
