Hey Larry, Maybe the ballast resistor value is too low. This in turn would cause excessive current to go to the coil thus causing overheating and boiling of the dielecrtic oil inside. Basically short-living the coil. Put your question up on the main list. (the address that starts with PSU. I don't think the manifold was the problem. The coil survived that many years on the intake. Alot of the commandos and firepower engines had them mounted even closer to the exhaust manifolds and they held up 'til now. Good Luck
