Speaking as someone who converted a '60 Plymouth to front disc brakes by spindle swapping, I do NOT recommend that anyone else do this now that bolt-on kits are available for 1957-61 (and related '62-64 fullsize) Mopars from Stainless Steel Brakes, Magnum Force (using Wilwoods) and AAJ (who has their ad right on the Forward Look homepage). A professional can convert the car to front disc brakes in a few hours (no realignment needed) AND the conversion can be reversed to drums at any time. The resale value of your car will be higher because it can be reversed to the original state, and there are NO drivability issues such as increased turning circle or inability to acheive exact duplication of geometry (like the F-body spindle swap!). Conversion by spindle swap would even cost you MORE money than the kits if you cannot do ALL of this front end work yourself! Spindle swapping was only done by myslef and others because there were no kits for our cars, and now that there are kits (3 of them, no less!) there is NO excuse to have to compromise the drivability of the car when you can have the stock turning circle AND the car having front disc brakes on it the same day you started!
